Recently, Apple announced its new operating system at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. Coming this fall, Sierra brings many exciting features to the Mac world. Also, Apple will no longer call their operating systems “OSX”, they will now be called simply “macOS”.
Siri
Everyone’s favorite handheld digital assistant is making her debut on Mac computers. On her new platform, Siri can help users find photos and documents on their computers, send messages, and pin things like sports schedules and Tweets directly to the Notification Center. Users can even ask Siri to find information or images and drag them directly into a window on their screen. For example, this allows users to drop a web image right into a Pages document, or to place a map and directions onto an invitation, all with no hassle.
Memories
With advancements in the technology behind Mac’s “Photos,” users can now turn their photographs into “Memories.” The new operating system will provide better facial recognition that its predecessors, display photos across a world map, and let users search for specific images by the things or scenery in them. Memories automatically compiles photos into eye-catching slideshows that allow users to quickly find the collections they want.
Universal Clipboard
An extremely interesting feature, the Universal Clipboard allows users to copy from one device and paste onto another. For example, a user can copy the necessary components for a new project from the iMac and paste them to their iPhone, which can then be taken to the hardware store as a shopping list.
Optimized Storage
Users will never have to worry about running out of storage space with this ability. Sierra will be able to automatically post less-used data to the Cloud, freeing up internal memory but retaining that data for access at any time.
These are just a few of the many features coming with the macOS Sierra, available this fall!
